The Difference Between Dieting and Lifestyle Changes

We live in a world where people want everything immediately! They'd rather get fast food than take an extra 10 minutes to cook a wholesome meal at home and will turn to quick fix limiting diets instead of a little exercise and food changes!

How many people in your life have been on the "new diet trend" that limits what you can eat, when you can eat, etc? Theres a good chance most people you know have been on a crazy restricting diet at least once in their life. Don't get us wrong - we are all about eating wholesome healthy diets, but restricting what you can eat and certain things your body genuinely needs to function is not good for your health!!

This new fascination with "quick fix" diets are mainly developing such popularity because of society and the idea of a "perfect body". 75% of American women surveyed endorse unhealthy thoughts, feelings or behaviors related to food or their bodies. When you don't feel your best, you look for anything that will help you feel more confident - we feel you! But what you do short term effects your long term health!!

Here at Teami, we genuinely want to help you feel your best self! Whether you use our products or simply seek advice from our blogs, we want to help you live a healthy life - in the right way!

Dieting

The word ‘diet’ comes from an ancient Greek word meaning ‘a mode of living’. It originally was meant as seeing your diet as something holistic and as a way of approaching life and health. Today, that definition has seriously changed with diets twisting this word into restricting food groups. In the short-term there may be some instant, visible change from dieting, but in the long-term, balance and moderation is better for both weight management and your health overall!

You may be thinking, whats so bad about doing a diet? If you're just eating healthy and doing a mindful diet without heavy restrictions - nothing is wrong with that! When you start to limit your body of things it physically needs to function, that's when it becomes a problem. Your body is always telling you what you need, and diets often tell you to ignore what your body is telling you. Eating is an instinct, think of eating as if you're a child - if you're hungry, eat! If you don't feel well, there's probably a reason!

On top of strict diets forcing you to tune out your body, they're not good for your mental health. Food becomes your constant focus and priority. You're not only vulnerable from feeling down about yourself enough to do the diet, you now are thinking negatively if ou have certain foods that aren't "allowed". Being on a journey to a healthier self should be a positive and happy experience - not restricting and negative!

Lifestyle Changes

There's a simple way to put diets in the past and still feel your best self! Once you do a few quick fix attempts, you realize the only way to see lasting healthy results is to maintain it as a lifestyle. Because of this, you have to adjust to a healthy lifestyle on your own terms. There's no set list of things to follow for your own health and wellness, you need to work on a plan for your own body that you know is achievable!

So what does a healthy lifestyle change mean? Simply put, it's a way for you to start a new healthy journey to your best self through some food swaps / adds into what you already have and mild exercise! Yes, that's really it! You don't need to give up anything you like to eat because there are healthy swaps for everything out there! There are natural sugar replacements to cut out harmful sugar, dark chocolate that is actually beneficial to your health, healthy flour like almond flour to bake with, etc!
