11 Amazing Fruit and Water Recipes

You’ve heard it time and again: Drink more water! Well, it’s true. There are tons benefits to drinking more water!.

Drinking more water keeps you hydrated, which, since your body is made up of 55-60 percent water, keeps your body systems and functions running more smoothly. 

Your body can compensate for dehydration to a point, but severe dehydration is nothing to joke about - it could send your body into shock!

Drinking more water can also help curb your appetite. If you’re trying to lose weight or just keep a close watch on your calories to maintain a healthy weight, drinking water can help you consume less calories. 

It does this by helping you feel more full, and causing you to say “no thanks” when more sugary options come your way. 

Despite the benefits, when you feel thirsty it’s easy to give in to the draw of soda, fruit juices (most have plenty of added sugar) and other drinks that are easy to grab. 

To help you choose water, try changing it up with these fruit-infused waters and be a pro when it comes to H2O!

**All recipes are for a half-gallon pitcher of water (about 2 liters).

1. Tropical Pineapple and Orange Infused Water

Drinking this water just may transport you to the beach in your mind. The pineapple and orange together create a blend of sweet and tart, and you will reap the benefits of vitamin C, which boosts your immune system.

Ingredients:

• 1 orange, sliced thin

• ½ cup pineapple, sliced thin

• 2 cups ice

• Water

Directions: 

Place orange and pineapple slices in a large pitcher or jar. (Tip: Leave orange peels on for more flavor, but citrus peels may taste bitter after 4-5 hours.) Cover with ice and fill with water. Let sit in a refrigerator for one hour. You can continue to add water to the fruit for up to 24 hours.

2. Strawberry Mint Infused Water

A winning combo, strawberry and mint infused water will keep you coming back for more. It takes berries a little longer to infuse than citrus fruit, so let this one sit in the fridge overnight if you can.

Ingredients:

• 1 pint of strawberries, quartered

• 10-12 mint leaves, torn 

• 1-2 cups ice 

• Water


Directions: 

Place washed, topped, and quartered strawberries in a pitcher. Add mint leaves. Tip: Tear the mint leaves to let more of their flavor escape. Add ice and water and chill in the refrigerator. After soaking overnight, enjoy all day, adding water, and discard after 24 hours.

3. Watermelon Basil Water

Another yummy fruit and herb combo, this watermelon basil calls for muddled basil. To muddle herbs, you use a tool (called a muddler) to gently press and turn on the leaves. Don’t have a muddler? No worries. The end of a wooden spoon or even blunt end of a butter knife will do.
